CARF
CARF Accreditation Services from the NC Evidence Based Practices Center
Increasingly, behavioral health organizations around the world are seeking to distinguish themselves by adopting an external measure of high quality, person-centered services. Many organizations are becoming internationally accredited and are choosing the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation as the most relevant and meaningful method of demonstrating their quality to the persons served and to community stakeholders.
The NC Evidence Based Practice Center provides the coaching, technical assistance and guidance for a successful accreditation experience. Our consultation services provide assistance in developing required policies, procedures, plans and documents. Different levels of consultation services are available, so you can choose the particular level of consultation that meets your individual needs.
One of our primary advantages is our key consultant in this service, Tim Slaven. Dr. Slaven is the former National Director of the Behavioral Health Division of CARF. He has also served as the Project Director of the National Opioid Treatment Accreditation Project. Dr. Slaven holds a Ph.D. in Urban Services (Health Care Administration) from Old Dominion University, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and North Carolina and is a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC).
Tim Slaven maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Richmond, Virginia. He is on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Rehabilitation Counseling, and has served as a CARF Accreditation Surveyor since 1994. He is the former Executive Director of Hanover Community Services Board, a nationally accredited provider of mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse services in Ashland, Virginia. Tim has over thirty-five years of experience in behavioral health treatment and administration.
