History
Through a generous grant from the Duke Endowment, the NC EBP Center was founded in 2004 in response to North Carolina’s behavioral health reform plan. The purpose was to create better behavioral healthcare through the dissemination and implementation of evidence based practices.
From 2004 – 2008, the NC EBP Center’s staff, based out of Southern Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, offered 282 programs to 2,206 participants, focused on disseminating toolkits developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on Assertive Community Treatment, Family Psychoeducation, Supported Employment, and Wellness Management and Recovery.
One year later, in addition to the toolkit trainings, the NC EBP Center identified and added new programs, including:
- Mental Health First Aid
- Breathe Easy, Live Well (smoking cessation)
- Community FACE-IT/SAY-IT substance abuse academies
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
With these additional programs, and reaching non-traditional audiences through workforce development contracts, the NC EBP Center has trained more than 20,000 individuals to date.
