Motivational Interviewing
The NC EBP Center can provide customized training packages in Motivational Interviewing, which offers a reduced rate per person, as well as saving travel costs and geared to enhance service delivery by behavioral health professionals. Each customized training package is focused on identifying and meeting the needs of the behavioral health service provider. We work with our customers to accurately identify those needs and develop packages that are timely and produce the outcomes that our customers need.
Motivational Interviewing is an evidence based, goal oriented approach for eliciting and strengthening motivation for positive change. Consistent with the stages of change model developed by Prochaska and DiClemente (1986) and developed by Miller and Rollnick (1991), Motivational Interviewing uses a collaborative communication style and a set of skills promoting understanding of an individual’s concerns, strengths and preferences to enhance efforts by helpers to guide and support positive behavioral change.
Our Motivational Interviewing program can be adapted to various groups and provides a continuous opportunity to further understanding of the foundations, principles and skills of Motivational Interviewing with a primary focus on developing strategies for increasing the adoption of MI for individuals, agencies, and systems.
We can provide this training in a variety of formats. These include: one day “Initial Trainings”, which are 6 hour trainings delivered face-to-face to participants; MI Champion Training where identified participants receive ongoing face-to-face “coaching” sessions to assist them with ongoing development of skills; MI Overview sessions which are generally 1-3 hours in length and can be provided to individual(s) or staff to become familiar with Motivational Interviewing as a therapeutic intervention. We can also customize MI trainings to meet the needs of providers based on meetings with the provider and the NC EBP Center Staff.
